British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a joint strike targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the IS group, according to the British defence ministry.
The facility, identified by surveillance, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was situated in mountains just to the north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"The RAF jets employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a series of entry passages down to the depot... early reports indicate the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no evidence of any civilian impact in the operation late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - also known as Daesh - enforced extremist governance over parts of Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This operation underscores the UK's leading role, and resolve to operate in unison with allied nations, to stamp out any resurgence of the terrorist group and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the Defence Secretary said.
UK warplanes have carried out overwatch operations over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of Islamic State subsequent to its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the ministry said.
"I want to thank all the members of our armed forces who took part in this strike for their expertise and their courage," the Defence Secretary said. "They were among a great many British troops on duty over the festive period. This operation, to eliminate militants who endanger our safety, highlights how British military are ready to step up, all year round, keeping Britain secure domestically and strong abroad."
During December, the American forces executed what it termed a "major assault" on Daesh sites in Syria, subsequent to an attack killed two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The United Nations estimates Daesh still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in both countries.
